The Alan Sondheim Collection

Alan Sondheim is a poet, artist, musician, and theorist working at intersections of cyberspace, the human body, and language. He has worked closely with the trAce Online Writing Centre and served as its artist-in-residence. Sondheim’s work has also been featured at The Museum of the Essential and Beyond That, The New River Journal, the Electronic Literature Collection Volume 1, BeeHive, The Iowa Review Web, and Turbulence. Much of Sondheim's work features key performances by Azure Carter.

This collection showcases 37 pieces from his enormous body of work. Included here are video poems like "pathless path" and "war, modified," performances such as "Avatar Duet," and executable programs like "america." Of particular note are many recorded experiments in Second Life, such as "bombing.” The collection also contains very early materials from two ongoing and influential listservs originally created by Sondheim, Cybermind and Fiction of Philosophy, as well as published examples of "codework.”
