weak blood was an multicultural, multigenerational net.art project created by Reiner Strasser that ran from March 27th to June of 1999, with many new works being created each week. Strasser was originally moved by the war in Serbia, and the project was "dedicated to all victims - a general statement against war and violence - for a human site." Weak blood went on to include an impressive 125 works by 76 artists. Strasser himself created or co-created over 29 of these. The weak blood Collection in The NEXT currently contains these 29, and we plan to add the rest in Spring of 2023. Among those included are pieces like "simply why" and "might be" that point out the lopsided and lottery-like nature of war's effects on citizens. In other works, like "cruel vote" and "donate," Strasser makes ingenious use of web affordances with mock surveys that bring home the staggering human toll of war violence and involve the user through their interactive participation.
Reiner Strasser gave the files for these works to Dene Grigar in 2021.
