The Stuart Moulthrop Collection

This collection features works of electronic literature created by Stuart Moulthrop—writer, designer of cybertexts, and Distinguished Professor of English at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. In 1991, he wrote and produced Victory Garden, a highly influential work of early hypertext fiction created in Eastgate Systems Inc.'s Storyspace platform. Branching out into other platforms and media, Moulthrop has experimented with Adobe Flash, web languages, and much more. Several of his works have appeared in pioneering publications such as The Iowa Review Web, Riding The Meridian, The New River Journal, and have been featured in multiple volumes of The Electronic Literature Collection. Concern for digital preservation led Moulthrop to work with Dr. Dene Grigar to produce the Pathfinders (2015) project for documenting and preserving born-digital works of literature and to the reconstruction of his pioneering hypertext novel, Victory Garden. This collection currently features six of his works that experiment with the affordances of the web, all donated by Stuart Moulthrop to the Electronic Literature Organization in 2020.
