The Sarah Smith Collection contains 20 works from her personal collection that she donated to the Electronic Literature Organization. Smith's major work of electronic literature is King of Space, which she wrote after meeting the owner and publisher of Eastgate Systems, Inc., Mark Bernstein, at MacWorld, just after finishing her first novel. The work was published in 1991 and remains, along with John McDaid's Uncle Buddy's Phantom Funhouse, one of a handful of e-lit works that tackles the science fiction genre. It was reconstructed in 2022 so that it would be accessible on the Web.
In October of 2017, Sarah Smith transferred the collection (digital and physical materials) to the ELL. The physical materials have since been held in the lab. The digital materials were held in the ELO Repository at the Electronic Textual Cultures Lab, later moved to the ELO server in 2019.
