In "The Glass Snail: A Pre-Christmas Tale," Pavic "spins a haunting hypertext tale of two people brought together by a shared compulsion. Then the past begins to emerge mysteriously through their meeting, until it threatens to subsume the present." -- From Word Circuits
Experiencing the Work
When this work loads, visitors will experience a rapidly-shifting field of white words against a black screen. Text changes very quickly, tied to cursor movement, and the high-contrast nature of the text on the background makes for sudden and potentially jarring visual transitions. An animated image is superimposed upon the field of text. The text is available to assistive technologies, and the entire structure may be navigated by keyboard, though focus will remain on a previously-displayed paragraph even after the words visually shift, and may need to be re-engaged manually with the new content. Visitors may click anywhere to cause changes in the text and superimposed image.
