Journey to the Center

"<Journey to the Center> was made during a new media residency on Maria Island, a small island off Tasmania, Australia, in 2002. The work is a collaborative fiction. The project was inspired by Jules Verne's novel, Journey to the Centre of the Earth - where the characters in his book journey to the northern island of Iceland to enter a volcano and try to reach the centre of the earth. His journey was a failure . . . and the characters found themselves shot out of a volcano in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. Our hypothesis was that Verne then tried the southern hemisphere . . . to Australia and specifically to Maria Island. The project includes interviews and photos, and video of this 'evidence' in the form of a blog, or FLOG (field logs).
