"Mola" is an ambitious, experimental, and highly metatextual early hypermedia work for the web, patterned on the traditional hand-made textile of the same name. Meaning exists at three levels in the text: "the mola, the texts, and scraps" (in the authors' own words). The authors' conversations about the intentions behind the work are incorporated into the work itself, fully intertwined with the rest of the content. Linked images in "Mola" participate in the meaning-making potential of the quilted structure, drawing upon traditional iconography.
