The Introduction to "M(other)" states that "Bach's Goldberg Variations were composed for clavier--a keyboard instrument in wide use during the early eighteenth century. Hale Chatfield's 1995 synthesizer transcriptions of the pieces 'interpret' them respecting their moods or attitudes and re-orchestrate them using computer wave-form technology. What follows is a 'multimedia poem' which takes a little over an hour and a quarter in presentation."
