Founded by author Claire Allan Dinsmore, Cauldron & Net: A Journal of the Arts and New Media, features four volumes of 71 works of electronic literature, published from 1997-2002 by some of the most important net artists of the period. The journal has been regarded as having one of the best designed interfaces that takes advantage of the aesthetics and functionality offered by the Flash platform. Because volumes of the journal and some of the works it published were produced with Flash rendered outmoded at the end of 2020, they have been preserved with Ruffle or Conifer and made accessible again.
In Spring of 2019, the local files for all of the works in Cauldron & Net came from Claire Allan Dinsmore to the Electronic Literature Lab. The files were held in the ELO Repository at the Electronic Textual Cultures Lab and, later, moved to the ELO server in 2019 where it was added to The NEXT.
