Computing Literature Vol. 7: Text as Ride

Text as Ride "analyzes e-literary text in the sense of a textual film-ride; however, the issues connected with this are by no means the sole content of this book. Such a text is viewed as part of the expanded concept of textuality, which includes both verbal and non-verbal signifiers. Such a text challenges readers to complex experiencing, which is by no means exhausted in the reading-as-we-know-it in the sense of decoding units of meaning, but in integral experiencing, which also includes kinesthetic and motor arrangements. Hence the chapter 'Cycling as Reading a Cityscape' was included, in which the city is discussed in the role of a textscape (in the sense Manovich’s database), which is being discovered during the act of cycling, deploying the bicycle as a user-friendly interface. Along the expanded concept of textuality, the manuscript also addresses the issue of play and game that is essential for a basic understanding of present technoculture. By taking into account the very nature of the game in terms of philosophical investigations the chapter on the event space on the move tries to answer one of the basic issues posed by the Wark’s 'Gamer Theory': can we explore games as allegories for the world we live in?" -- Janez Strehovec, "Introduction"
