Richard Holeton's absurdist hypertext novel, Figurski at Findhorn on Acid, was published by Eastgate Systems, Inc. in 2001 on the Storyspace platform. Along with its satirical treatment of contemporary culture, a hallmark of the novel is its structure: It is a massive work of 147 text spaces built around clearly-defined combinations of three characters, locations, and artifacts, with an additional 147 Notes that contextualize the narrative for readers, and 2001 links connecting spaces and Notes together. The 2021 Web Edition featured in this exhibition offers two reading modes: one for contemporary computers and a second reflecting the look and feel of the MacOS 9.2 Classic environment that readers may have used when first encountering the work in 2001.
