Selected for exhibition for the 2000 Whitney Biennial of American Art, Grammatron is one of the first major works of net art, striking a nerve with the netizens of the Web with its savvy insights into cyberculture. The line, "I link therefore I am," captures the hypertext experience of the late 1990s when artists were experimenting with combinatory writing and interrogating the networked collective unconsciousness.
